This morning those classes "met" author Stephen McCranie during a Skype visit. Stephen writes a graphic novel series called Mal and Chad about a boy genius and his amazing talking dog.
Stephen draws digitally, so we got to watch him work on his screen. He gave us two questions to use as writers: 1) What does our character want? and 2) What is preventing our character from getting what he wants? With the help of some creative suggestions, he drew Hurricane Mollie, the tornado tamer who battled aliens with her laser beam eyes.
Then he demonstrated how drawing can be broken down into basic shapes, like circles, squares and triangles. Finally he answered questions while he drew a request from the audience: Winnie the Pooh riding a zebra!
